Invest in a Healthier, Happier You
A summer at Wellspring Camp La Jolla provides benefits for years to come. Wellspring works hard to make camp an affordable investment for families through the following:
Loans to Spread the Cost Over Years
Wellspring offers loans through Clark Loans, a valuable lending partner that has helped thousands of families to spread the cost of camp over months or years. These loans can cover the entire camp tuition, including transportation to and from the program, and feature competitive interest rates, easy review and deferral of payments for up to 6 months. Insurance Reimbursement for Tuition
Unique among weight loss camps and weight loss programs, many Wellspring Camp La Jolla families will be reimbursed for approximately ¼ to ⅓ of the cost of tuition by their health insurance.
However, because health insurance plans vary greatly, Wellspring cannot guarantee that any portion of a camper’s tuition will be reimbursed by health insurance providers.
The behavior modification component of Wellspring Camp La Jolla includes a psychological assessment and four cognitive behavioral counseling sessions per week (two group sessions, one extended individual session, and one shorter individual session). These services can be categorized as either “mental health” or “health” (“medical”) treatments and varies depending upon provider, plan, and benefits.
Typically, families with PPO plans are more likely to receive reimbursement for a portion of the clinical component of the program (an estimated $2,000 for the first four weeks, and $1,500 for the second four weeks). They should not expect full reimbursement, nor should they base their decision to enroll their children upon such reimbursement.
Families with HMOs should generally not expect to receive reimbursement, though we encourage families to advocate for their children’s health whenever possible.
Wellspring uses a private billing agency to bill insurance companies directly for reimbursement. If preauthorization is required, Wellspring will determine this and, where possible, ensure that treatment is preauthorized.
Treatment at Wellspring Camp La Jolla is not considered inpatient care despite the fact that campers are in residence, nor should our services ever be represented as such.
Questions to Consider in Determining Likely Reimbursement from Health Insurance:
| Question | Understanding the Answer |
| Question #1: Does my health insurance plan reimburse for out-of-network behavioral therapy? | If yes, go to Question #2. If no, then you are very unlikely to receive any reimbursement of the Wellspring tuition |
| Question #2: Is there a deductible required for out-of-network behavioral therapy? | If no, go to Question #3. If yes, ask the amount, and whether you may have already satisfied all or part of it for this year. |
Question #3: At what rate will I be reimbursed?

Tax Deduction for Weight Loss Treatment
As treatment for obesity is now classified by the IRS as a valid medical expense, Wellspring tuition may be claimed as a medical deduction following a referral from a physician.
