Family Weight Loss Success

At Wellspring Camp La Jolla, we want to positively impact the health and wellbeing of as many children, adolescents and adults as possible. To help us meet this goal, we offer our program for women ages 30 – 60+ for moms who want to join their child’s fitness and weight loss journey, as well as Family Workshops, which give family members the opportunity to join campers for a weekend of education and activity.

Family Workshops
Two-day Family Workshops are offered free of charge twice over the course of the summer because our research shows that when families provide a supportive home environment, including role modeling healthy eating and activity, campers are significantly more likely to maintain or continue weight loss after camp.
And Family Workshops have been shown to help entire families lose weight together. In fact, in family surveys, 95% of parents indicated that others in the family lost weight—and 15% of these families lost more than 25 lbs.

Weight Loss Camp California

During the Family Workshops, families learn the science of the Wellspring Plan, participate in activities, enjoy our delicious low-fat, low-density diet, and learn to shop and cook in ways that support their camper’s healthy new lifestyle.

Elements of the Family Workshop include:

  • Instruction on the science of weight gain and weight loss—including information about fad diets, low-fat vs. low-carb debate, and the role of both biology and environment in weight gain.
  • Parenting to promote healthy weight loss: Letting go of your role as “food police” and motivating your child without using food as a reward.
  • Living the Wellspring Plan: Parents receive self-monitoring journals, calorie counters, and pedometers, and then set goals and commit to self-monitor and journal over the duration of the Family Workshop.
  • Culinary and nutrition demonstrations and presentations.
  • The Family Workshop concludes with the development of a plan that promotes a smooth transition from camp to home.
