Dance For Life

By: Maggie Zuniga

If you are still searching for a physical activity you'd enjoy, maybe dance is the answer for you. Dance is for EVERYONE and brings many great benefits. Thanks to the outstanding popularity of TV shows such as Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance?, getting your groove on has become more popular than ever. On one of the shows, celebrities who have never danced before, and basically have two left feet, are transformed into graceful performance dancers. Pretty inspiring, huh?

Anyone can learn to dance. Whichever style of dance you choose, get up and bust a move and have fun with it! You can take dance classes at school, at a dance studio, or simply pop an instructional DVD into the player at home and get your groove on in your own living room. Dancing is FUN and you don't have to have a partner to dance. There are plenty of styles of dance that can be done solo, such as line dancing or hip-hop dance. Dancing also releases endorphins, which are mood enhancers. I always see smiles on the faces of dancers when they walk off the dance floor at weddings or holiday parties.

Here are a few benefits of dance that I have picked up through the years:

Enhanced artistic expression and spirituality
Relaxation, mental clarity and escape
Increased personal confidence
Better posture and body alignment
Increased flexibility and stamina
Stronger cardiovascular system
Improved overall health
Overcome shyness
Stress reduction
Meet new people and make new friends
Acquire more grace and poise
Improved muscle tone
Olympic athletes often include dance in their
training to sharpen their control, agility, and balance
Dancing can burn as many calories as walking,
swimming, or riding a bike, which equals…
Weight loss!

Of course, there are many health benefits from all types of physical activities, but dancing is FUN and it's for LIFE! If you need suggestions or tips on how to get started dancing, just call our office at 800-825-8746 and ask for Maggie.
