Healthy Summer Fitness Weight Loss Tips
Getting ready for a Great Summer at Camp La Jolla? With a little effort NOW you can make your summer at Camp La Jolla even better! Start by using these daily tips for increasing your activity level. These small changes can add up to a big difference in preparing you for a great summer at Camp!
-
Park at the far end of the parking lot allowing for more steps to and from the business that you are visiting.
-
Take the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator- remember, there are no escalators at Camp this summer.
-
Take a break from school work for a 10 minute walk or stretch…even dancing to your favorite song. All these activities will increase blood flow to your brain and help to make your study time more productive.
-
Don’t rely on the car when school or friends are short distances away. Try biking, walking, rollerblading, or skateboarding.
-
Plan an active family outing or weekend getaway. A day on the bike path, laser tag, or a Dance Dance Revolution duel!
-
Next time you hit the video rental store pick up a fitness DVD as well as the latest blockbuster.
-
Help with yard work. Raking and weeding is a great workout!
-
Take the dog for a walk. Don’t have a dog? Offer to walk you neighbor’s dog!
-
Take the scenic route everywhere you go.
-
Turn up some music while completing household chores. Not only will the music make the work more fun, but it will help you to move faster throughout the tasks.
-
Don’t ask someone to bring you something that you can get yourself. In fact, offer to run errands for other people. Find a friend or family member to join you in your quest for more daily activity.
-
Begin each day with a healthy, balanced meal… just like at Camp! Try low-fat yogurt, an orange, and a slice of whole grain toast with peanut butter.
-
Bottoms up on the water! As we head into these warmer summer months, our body’s very efficient cooling system (sweating) uses a lot of water. Make sure that you are replenishing that supply with 8-10 BIG glasses of water each day (add lemon, lime, or orange for variety).
-
Remember to enjoy your company. For many families, dinner time is one of the few times of the day the whole family is together, if not the only. Take time to enjoy each others company and take the focus off the food.
-
Looking for dessert? Try a nice fresh fruit salad. Loads of the sweet flavor you are looking for (not to mention vitamins and nutrients) without a lot of fat or calories.
-
Clean up! Immediately upon finishing a meal, clear the table so you are not tempted to continue nibbling on the left-overs.
-
Make sleep a priority. Getting adequate rest will restore your energy, reduce stress, and help you lose weight.
-
Review your goals. Taking 15 minutes each day just for you is a great way to stay focused on your goals. Write down your goals for this summer and revisit those goals daily. At the end of the summer, you will see how your diligence has paid off.

Give yourself a pat on the back! You are doing something wonderful for your body, mind, and spirit by attending Camp La Jolla!!!
