Fantastic Food at Wellspring Camp La Jolla

At Wellspring Camp La Jolla, you will eat a low-fat, low calorie-density diet that is simple to understand and easy to sustain long after camp ends. We understand that you want to eat food that is delicious, nutritious and familiar to you.  So we create a menu of food that you’re used to eating—like breaded chicken nuggets, pizza, sweet potato “fries” and chocolate brownies—but prepare them in ways that are lower in fat and better for you.

And, because we want our campers to continue their weight loss success for years to come, we teach all campers how to cook “Wellspring-friendly” foods in our nutrition and culinary classes.

With this diet, campers learn that they can become long-term weight controllers and still eat food that is familiar and full of flavor.

Daily menus include three delicious meals and two healthy snacks to keep your energy level up for days full of fun fitness and weight loss activities. Menus have been developed by registered dietitians using beloved recipes, many of which are available by clicking here.  Meals include a “controlled” entrée (such as a bison burger and baked “fries”, or an Eggbeater sandwich with turkey bacon), as well as unlimited access to the “uncontrolled foods.” Uncontrolled foods include options such as soups, fresh fruit and salad, as well as fat-free versions of yogurt, tuna salad, egg salad, and cottage cheese.

Weight Loss Camps

A typical day of controlled foods includes 1,200 calories, 10 g of fat, 50 g of protein, and 30 g of fiber. Unlimited access to uncontrolled foods adds to these totals – often significantly. At Wellspring Camp La Jolla, there is no caloric goal. If campers are hungry, they will have as much uncontrolled food as they like, until they are satisfied. All we ask is that they self-monitor everything as part of our behavior modification program.
