Counselor
This person should be an excellent role model for children or women. A counselor should have the desire, commitment and ability to work with young people or adults, as he or she will have a group of campers that are their immediate responsibility. The counselor should have strong leadership skills and a positive attitude. Our counselors may teach or assist one of the following: Fitness activities ranging from general sports to specific group fitness classes, nutrition classes, behavior modification classes, arts and crafts or evening program/theatre arts activities.
In addition to the above, you may also participate in the following roles:
Class B Drivers: Drivers are responsible, mature individuals who in addition to their counselor or specialist duties also drive 15-passenger vans. You must be 21 years of age and have a clean driving record. Drivers arrive early to camp and are properly trained to drive the vehicles. Drivers receive a State of California Class B License.
Nutrition Team: The Nutrition Team consists of a director, an assistant director, and counselors that are nutrition specialists. Our nutritionists not only teach our nutrition classes, but they are always present in our dining hall during meal times to supervise and help campers serve meals and snacks. The Nutrition Team will meet weekly to prepare lessons for all classes as well as lead the weekly classes.
Behavior Modification Team: The‘Bmod’ Team consists of a director, an assistant director, and counselors that are Bmod specialists. We also have Office Behavior Specialists who hold daily office hours to support our campers. Our Bmod program is designed to help campers understand themselves better where their eating behavior is concerned and to suggest techniques for making these changes. The Bmod Team will meet weekly to prepare lessons for all Bmod classes as well as lead the weekly classes.
Evening Activity Team: The Evening Program team consists of a director, 2 assistant directors, and counselors that are evening program specialists. This team works to plan our camp evenings, from dances and talent shows to daily Saturday and Sunday activities that include scavenger hunts, game shows, and field games. This team encourages group participation and is in charge of the development, creation, and set-upof group activities.
Athletic Specialists: We have an Athletic Leader in each department as well as counselors that specialize and teach in each of the athletic areas. This person is hired for his or her skill and expertise in a specific area as well as for the ability to be flexible in working with a variety of groups. The specialists are in charge of teaching, supervising, and preparing lesson plans in the specialty area as well as the caring of his or her own camp group. Athletic Leaders oversee the program and classes related to their area of expertise. Areas of specialty include tennis, dance, *water sports, *lifeguards,*aerobics, *martial arts, *yoga, rock climbing, *kayaking, surfing, *pilates,*spinning, bicycling, *personal training, etc.
